Higher Education Readiness (HER)HER in Ethiopia
Around the world, 62 million girls do not have access to the education they deserve. In Ethiopia, for every 100 boys in secondary school there are only 77 girls. These statistics are staggering, and the disparity is even greater at the university level: according to UNESCO, traditionally there are four times more male students than female students.
You can help us change this. The Institute of International Education (IIE) provides financial and academic support as well as mentorship and leadership training to young Ethiopian girls in secondary school, through our Higher Education Readiness (HER) Program. HER is helping the girls stay in school and continue to university where they will achieve academic success.
By donating today your gift will help send a HER student to university, and will give her the supplies and support she needs to succeed. Your investment in girls' higher education is an investment in future female leaders with the power to transform their communities.
Give now and IIE will double your gift, up to $15,000! Between now through June 15, IIE will match every dollar you contribute to this effort, doubling your contribution, up to $15,000.
To date, we have provided 200 girls with support to complete secondary school. The first cohort of girls will graduate from high school this spring from two schools in Addis Ababa, ready to become leaders at universities and beyond.
But we only have until June 15th, so please donate today.
On behalf of the HER girls, thank you for your support!
